Dr Ajay Duseja is presently working as Professor and Head in the department of Hepatology, Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, India.

He is Fellow of American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (FAASLD), Fellow of American College of Gastroenterology (FACG), Fellow of National Academy of Medical Sciences (FAMS), Fellow of Indian National Association for Study of the Liver (FINASL), Fellow of Indian Society of Gastroenterology (FISG), Fellow of the Society of GI Endoscopy of India (FSGEI), and Master of Indian Society of Gastroenterology (Master-ISG).

He is the Secretary-General of the Indian National Association for Study of the Liver (INASL) for last five years and also the National Convener of the INASL Task Force on metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and the Principal Investigator of the Indian Consortium on MASLD (ICOM-D) –an on-going real-life study on MASLD in India involving 45 centres.

He is the member of the Chronic Liver Disease Foundation (CLDF) NASH/MASH Committee (USA), member of Global NASH/MASH Council and Global Liver Council (USA), member of the Gut and Obesity in Asia (GOASIA) working group.

He is author of more than 475 publications in reputed international and national journals and has more than 45 chapters in the Gastroenterology and Hepatology text books.

Dr. Ajit Sood is a Professor and Head of the Department of Gastroenterology at Dayanand Medical College & Hospital, Ludhiana, India. Prof Amar Mukund is Professor of Interventional Radiology at the Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (ILBS), New Delhi, India. An internationally recognised leader in interventional Radiology, he has extensive experience in image-guided therapies for portal hypertension and liver malignancies. Prof Mukund is actively involved in research, education and multidisciplinary collaborations aimed at improving outcomes for patients with cirrhosis with portal hypertension using IR therapies.

Dr. Amol Bapaye is Consultant Gastroenterologist and Interventional Endoscopist and Director of Shivanand Desai Center for Digestive Disorders, Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital and Research Center, Pune, India. He is a member of the ISG, SGEI, JGES, ASGE, and ESGE; and has been awarded the prestigious ‘Master of SGEI (MSGEI), and prestigious fellowships of societies – FISG, FASGE, and FJGES. Originally a surgeon by training, Dr. Bapaye has been practicing interventional endoscopy as an exclusive specialty for last 26 years. Dr. Anand V. Kulkarni is a senior consultant and director of critical care hepatology at the Asian Institute of Gastroenterology, Hyderabad, India. He completed his DM in Hepatology & Liver Transplantation from the Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (ILBS), Delhi in 2018. He has over 150 PubMed-indexed publications and serves as a reviewer and editorial board member for numerous national and international journals. Dr. Arshdeep Singh is an Associate Professor of Gastroenterology at Dayanand Medical College and Hospital, Ludhiana, whose academic work has focused on advancing inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) research, education, and patient care in India. He has authored more than 80 indexed publications with over 1,500 citations and an H-index of 21, publishing in leading journals including Lancet Gastroenterology & Hepatology, Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology, American Journal of Gastroenterology, and Journal of Crohn’s and Colitis. Dr. B.S. Ramakrishna is Director and Senior Consultant, Institute of Gastroenterology, Hepatobiliary Science & Transplantation at the SIMS Hospitals, Vadapalani, Chennai, India.

Formerly Professor and Head of the Gastroenterology Department at the Christian Medical College, Vellore, he is a practicing clinician and endoscopist besides conducting research on small bowel disease, inflammatory bowel disease and the gut microbiome.

Dr. George M. Varghese is an infectious diseases physician, researcher, and Professor at Christian Medical College (CMC), Vellore, with over two decades of experience in infectious diseases and tropical medicine. He has received advanced training at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, UK, and Wayne State University, USA.

Dr. Varghese is internationally recognised for his clinical and translational research on scrub typhus, antimicrobial resistance, and other tropical infections. Dr. Goutham Reddy Katukuri is a Senior Consultant Gastroenterologist at AIG Hospitals, Hyderabad. He completed his MBBS from Osmania Medical College, Hyderabad, MD (General Medicine) from Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, and DM (Gastroenterology) from Sri Ramachandra Medical College, Chennai.

His clinical work spans advanced endoscopy, EUS-guided interventions, and pancreaticobiliary diseases. On the research front, he is focused on the translational applications of Regenerative Endotherapy for GI defect repair and the use of Artificial Intelligence to advance diagnostic and therapeutic outcomes in gastroenterology.

He has authored several publications in peer-reviewed journals and is a recipient of the APDW Young Investigator Award. Alongside his clinical work, he is involved in academic teaching and clinical research, with a continued interest in innovation in therapeutic endoscopy.

Dr. Hardik Rughwani is a Senior Consultant Gastroenterologist at AIG Hospitals, Gachibowli, Hyderabad. He completed his M.B.B.S. and M.D. (Internal Medicine) from B.J. Medical College, Ahmedabad, followed by D.M. Gastroenterology from the Govt. Stanley Medical College, Chennai.

His clinical expertise spans hepatobiliary and pancreatic diseases, GERD, motility disorders, and inflammatory bowel disease, with extensive experience in diagnostic and advanced interventional endoscopy, including enteroscopy, EUS, and hepatobiliary procedures.

An active clinical researcher, he has authored numerous publications in leading international and national journals — including Gut, Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, and the Journal of Crohn’s and Colitis — as well as textbook chapters, with research interests in advanced endoscopy, artificial intelligence in GI, and sustainability in endoscopy. Dr Jayanta Samanta is currently working as an Additional professor in the Department of Gastroenterology at PGIMER, Chandigarh. He has completed his M.D (Internal medicine) and DM (Gastroenterology) from PGIMER, Chandigarh. He has keen interest in research and training and has been actively involved in the grooming and guidance of trainees both in his institute and outside through workshops, webinars, hands-on sessions, live demonstrations and online sessions. His key areas of interest include pancreatitis, pancreato-biliary intervention, interventional EUS and third space endoscopy. With an urge for research and academics he has already published and been part of more than 200 international journal publications, book chapters etc. Representing his institution and country, he has presented his work at various international forums and have won multiple accolades, including a few won for the first time from India. Dr Madhumita Premkumar, Additional Professor of Hepatology at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, is a critical care and transplant hepatologist with a special interest in Point-of-care ultrasound, coagulation in liver disease, and clinical trials in portal hypertension. She has worked on the management of hepatitis C virus infection in northern India under the National Viral Hepatitis Elimination Programme (NVHCP), recompensation in cirrhosis and cirrhotic cardiomyopathy.'

Dr Manav Wadhawan has pioneered the HBIG free regimens in liver transplant for HBV related liver disease. Currently, he is on the editorial board of Journal of Clinical & Experimental Hepatology (JCEH). He is also a member of the INASL national task force on Acute Liver Failure, Hepatocellular carcinoma, HCV disease in India, NAFLD in India as well as DILI (drug induced liver disease) task force. His area of interest also includes Metabolic health & nutrition & managing difficult ERCP’s. He has numerous publications on Sarcopenia as well as ERCP for post-transplant biliary complications. He is an avid runner, trekker & a health enthusiast. He runs half marathons every year.

Dr. Mohan Ramchandani is Director of Interventional Endoscopy at AIG Hospitals Hyderabad, India, and has more than two decades of experience in advanced gastrointestinal endoscopy. He is internationally recognized for his expertise in therapeutic endoscopy, third-space endoscopy, pancreatobiliary interventions, and minimally invasive endoscopic procedures. He received advanced training in therapeutic endoscopy in Japan and China and has contributed significantly to the development of advanced endoscopy programs and training in India. Dr. Ramchandani currently serves as Co-Editor of Endoscopy and has previously held leadership positions in the Society of GI Endoscopy of India (SGEI), including Treasurer and Joint Secretary. He has authored over 250 peer-reviewed publications and is a regular invited faculty member at international conferences, live endoscopy workshops, and training programs. Dr Naresh Bhat is a senior gastroenterologist who has pioneered gastroenterology in the southern state of Karnataka where he started working 40 years ago. He has been Past President of the Indian Society of Gastroenterology and Society of SGEI. He has been a trainer and senior member of Asian NBI Group. A vastly experienced endoscopist and teacher his present interests include IBD, Bowel Ultrasound, Acute Pancreatitis and advanced endoscopic imaging.

Dr Naveen Kalra works as a Professor in the Department of Radiodiagnosis at PGIMER, Chandigarh. He has been actively involved in clinical and research work for the past twenty-five years. Dr Nipun Verma is an Additional Professor of Hepatology at PGIMER Chandigarh. His clinical and research work focuses on alcohol-related liver disease, acute-on-chronic liver failure, decompensated cirrhosis, infections and antimicrobial resistance in liver disease, fungal infections, and artificial intelligence in hepatology. He has contributed to multicentre studies, randomized trials, machine-learning models, and biomarker research in liver diseases, with publications in leading hepatology and gastroenterology journals. He serves in multiple national and international academic roles, including as Chair and Lead of the INASL Taskforce on Artificial Intelligence in Hepatology and elected Governing Council member of INASL. He remains deeply committed to collaborative, patient-centred research that can improve early diagnosis, risk stratification, and outcomes in advanced liver disease.

Dr. Nitesh Pratap is a Consultant Gastroenterologist at Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences, Secunderabad, where he has been serving since 2012.

He is currently the Secretary General of the Indian Neurogastroenterology and Motility Association, a position he has held since 2017.

Dr. Philip Joseph is a senior Professor of Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary (HPB) and Liver Transplant Surgery at Christian Medical College (CMC), Vellore, where he has served as a faculty member since 1997. Specializing in advanced abdominal surgery, clinical and expertise in the management of HPB cancers, complex biliary tract diseases, including complex bile duct strictures, and specialized pancreatic resections and disorders, such as portal annular pancreas. He also focuses on neuroendocrine tumors and liver transplantation. Additional interest is in clinical excellence through initiatives aimed at optimizing patient outcomes in hepatobiliary disorders.

Dr Prachi Patil is a Professor and Head in the Department of Digestive Diseases and Clinical Nutrition at the Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai, India.

Important Contributions

Dr Dhiman is the frontrunner for the Elimination of Viral Hepatitis in India. Started the Viral Hepatitis C elimination project in Punjab, aimed to treat approximately 10 lakh people with Direct antivirals. Devised a low cost highly effective algorithm for the treatment of hepatitis C. After looking at the success of Punjab Model, the Government of India launched the National Viral Hepatitis Control Program (NVHCP) on 28 July 2018 with provision of free diagnosis and treatment for patients with viral hepatitis through the National Health Mission with Dr Dhiman as Chairman of “Technical Resource Group (TRG)”.

Dr. Rajender Motiani, is an Associate Professor and has been heading a laboratory at the Regional Centre for Biotechnology, India, since November 2018. Prior to this, he was an Inspire Faculty Fellow at the CSIR-Institute of Genomics & Integrative Biology, New Delhi between 2013 and 2018. He earned his Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences from Albany Medical College, New York, in 2012, following his Veterinary Degree (B.Vet.Sc./DVM) from Nagpur Veterinary College in 2007.

Dr. Rajesh Puri is Vice Chairman of Interventional Gastroenterology at Medanta – The Medicity, Gurgaon, India, and is a globally recognized expert in advanced gastrointestinal endoscopy. With over 25 years of experience, his areas of expertise include Therapeutic Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS), ERCP, POEM, Third-Space Endoscopy, pancreato-biliary interventions, GI oncology, and management of liver diseases.

He is a former Secretary and former Governing Council Member of the Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy of India (SGEI). Dr Rakesh Aggarwal is working with Indian Council of Medical Research as Chair for Disease Elimination. He was previously Director of JIPMER, Puducherry, a large medical university in India, and Professor and Head of Gastroenterology at Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Lucknow.

He has worked extensively on epidemiologic, clinical, molecular and immunologic aspects of viral hepatitis E, B and C, with more than 350 published papers. He has served for several years on WHO’s global Strategic and Technical Advisory Group on Viral Hepatitis, HIV and Sexually Transmitted Infections (STAG-HHS), WHO South-East Asia Region’s Strategic and Technical Advisory Group on HIV, hepatitis and Sexually Transmitted Infections (STAG-HHS-SEAR) and Expert Panel for Verification of Hepatitis B Control, and several committees for India’s National Viral Hepatitis Control Program.

Dr. Sanjiv Saigal works as Vice Chairman & Head of Hepatology and Liver Transplant Medicine at Max Super Specialty Hospital, Saket, Delhi, India. Dr. Siddharth Srivastava is a distinguished Professor of Gastroenterology at Govind Ballabh Pant Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (GIPMER), New Delhi. A highly accomplished clinician, researcher, and advanced endoscopist, he specializes in pancreatic diseases, and therapeutic endoscopy. With over a decade of experience at GIPMER, Dr. Srivastava has authored more than 100 publications in reputed international journals and actively contributes to clinical trials and patient care. Dr. Siddharth is one of the founding members of Indian pancreas club Known for his expertise in managing complex gastrointestinal disorders, he is a respected teacher and faculty member dedicated to advancing gastroenterology in India.

Dr. Sonam Mathur is a Senior Consultant Gastroenterologist from AIG Hospitals, Hyderabad, INDIA. She has completed her MBBS from GMC, Aurangabad, MD Medicine from JNMC, Wardha and DM Gastroenterology from SRMC, Chennai.

Apart from her academic and clinical expertise in Advanced Endoscopy, she has a keen interest in healthcare management and incorporating diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) in gastroenterology. Dr. Soumya Jagannath Mahapatra is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Gastroenterology and Human Nutrition Unit at All India Institute of Medical Sciences. He is a gastroenterologist with a special interest in pancreatic diseases, including acute pancreatitis, chronic pancreatitis, pancreatic necrosis, and pancreatic cancer.

Dr. Mahapatra has been actively involved in clinical research and patient care at one of India’s leading academic medical centers. His research focuses on improving outcomes in acute pancreatitis, infected pancreatic necrosis, nutritional management in gastrointestinal diseases, and the development of personalized approaches to pancreatic disorders. He has contributed to several prospective and retrospective studies evaluating disease severity, complications, interventions, and long-term outcomes in pancreatology.

In addition to his research activities, Dr. Mahapatra is engaged in postgraduate and fellowship training, mentoring young clinicians and researchers in evidence-based gastroenterology. Dr Dhir did his advanced endoscopy fellowship at the Academic Medical Centre Amsterdam in 1994. Currently he is the Chairman of Institute of Digestive Liver Care, S L Raheja Hospital, Mumbai, India. Vishal is an Additional Professor of gastroenterology at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, India. His research focuses on understanding the immune mechanisms underlying chronic inflammatory diseases, host–pathogen interactions, gut–lung axis biology, with particular emphasis on the role of adaptive and innate immune responses in tissue injury, fibrosis, and disease progression.

Dr. Rizvi leads preclinical research programs supporting vaccine and biotherapeutic development and serves as a lead scientist for CEPI-supported preclinical evaluation studies. His laboratory investigates the immunopathogenesis of chronic pancreatitis, exploring the contribution of T-cell-mediated inflammation, trained immunity, and immune-metabolic pathways in pancreatic injury and fibrosis. Through the development and characterization of preclinical models, his group has identified key inflammatory pathways driving disease progression and evaluated immune-modulatory therapeutic strategies aimed at limiting pancreatic inflammation and fibrotic remodeling.

He has authored more than 40 peer-reviewed publications, holds multiple patents, and has contributed to the advancement of translational immunology through national and international collaborations. Dr. Rizvi serves as an Editor and reviewer for several leading international journals in immunology and infectious diseases.
