Indian Neurogastroenterology & Motility Association (INMA) formerly named Indian Motility & Functional Diseases Association was registered in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India in 2011 by Prof. Uday C Ghoshal. The Office of association is located at the Department of Gastroenterology, Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Lucknow. Functional gastrointestinal (GI) disorders, currently called disorders of gut-brain interaction and GI motility disorders are common all over the world including India.

Patients with these disorders contribute about two-thirds of gastroenterology clinic workload in most parts of the world. Since epidemiology, pathogenesis and management of these disorders in India in particular, are still evolving, there was a need for a group of committed workers in this subspecialty of Gastroenterology in India. Accordingly, this association was started in 2011.
